Dubious tactics

Azhar A Khan

Sir — This refers to the article, “looming crisis in Parliament” (April 4) by Kalyani Shankar. With the relationship between the Government and a united Opposition seeing its lowest-ever ebb to culminate in almost a washout of as many as 12 |consecutive sessions of Parliament, public confidence in their

representatives has already begun to erode.

At the same time, the situation has come to such a pass that the presiding officers of both the Houses are having a tough time to contain their members even as the Government is, for the first time, faced with a no-confidence motion moved by the Congress, the Telugu Desam Party and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

The writer’s observation that the blame-game for stalemate of the parliamentary proceedings is on between the Opposition and the Government but neither seems serious about the real business, is spot on as the latter, presently being the caretaker of Indian democracy is expected to take an initiative to resolve the impasse and reach out to the former first.

Otherwise, the vicious circle of this retaliatory stalls will go on at the cost of the tax-payers’ money, precious time of our legislators and the public faith in the present democratic values.
