Plugging loopholes

Madhu Agrawal
Sir — This refers to the report, “Five-day Odd-Even rerun from Nov 13, exemptions intact” (November 10). The implementation of odd-even scheme for cars in the Capital city with too many exemptions after the worst polluted days seem to be over may prove to be simply theoretical since two-wheelers, which have been exempted, are highly polluting vehicles as they burn petrol mixed with mobile-oil.
It is not understood how reducing metro fares will help curb pollution because people  who desire to shift to metro are precisely those who can afford cars too. Odd-even, if applied, should be from 4 pm to 12 midnight to additionally tackle road jams because of the marriage-season. The scheme has been a boon for car-manufacturers and rich people because of doubling car-fleet with alternate numbers by rich section of society.
