Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Booster for Congress” (August 10). Congress leader Ahmed Patel’s win in the Rajya Sabha carries multiple messages in the envelope.
The Janata Dal (United), by voting against the Bharatiya Janata Party, has sought to dehyphenate its linkage with it in Patna, thereby asserting its identity and gaining recently lost political stature in the process.
The Nationalist Congress Party had the BJP and the media chase red herrings only to reserve the last laugh by voting for the Congress. The grand old party has since imbibed unfamiliar virtues of hard toil and political ground combat. It may well help bring it down from its ivory tower to micro politics.
Meanwhile, the BJP has now realised that in a crunch, Opposition does find its long lost coherence, which should augur well for a healthy democracy.
