Sir — This refers to the article, “Twists and turns in TN politics” (January 4) by Kalyani Shankar. The writer has given an illuminating analysis of the present situation of politics in the southern State of Tamil Nadu and the various potentialities owing to the developments in the aftermath of J Jayalalithaa’s death.

The most recent development is the elevation of MK Stalin as the DMK’s working president. Stalin has been sufficiently trained by his father M  Karunanidhi. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has no single leader so far to command both the party and the Government, the way Jayalalithaa did. She had faith in Sasikala Natarajan, her long-time friend, but gave her no leverage anytime in the Government when she was alive.

Instead, she gave chance to present Chief Minister O Panneerselvam who has experience in running the Government. This duality of power centres in the AIADMK has created a multiple scope for political turmoil in Tamil Nadu in the future, which may benefit the DMK to return in power in the 2021 Assembly election.
