Sir — This refers to the article, “This year, let’s resolve to listen” (January 3) by Kushan Mitra. In their famous song, ABBA, a pop group, said, “Happy new year. Happy new year. May we all have a vision now and then. Of a world where every neighbour is a friend.” This is the right note to begin the new year. We must listen and cooperate with others if we have to progress.
Many countries have graduated from police states to welfare states. American author and political activist Helen Keller and Stephen Hawking are shining bright in our who’s who. Slowly, but surely, we are realising that only cooperation and compassion can take us forward. let us throw the survival of the fittest theory away.
