Sir — This refers to the news report, “Dalit assaults rock Parliament” (July 21). The BJP’s strict action against Uttar Pradesh vice president Dayashankar Singh, over his derogatory remarks against Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati is belated, yet a welcome move as it has come at a time when the Parliament is in session.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is busy doing some damage limitation exercise vis-a-vis attack on Dalits in Gujarat. Divesting the errant party leader, of all the posts that he was hitherto enjoying, will serve as a deterrent for other leaders who get away with highly deplorable remarks.
