Letter to the Editor

Nation first

TKM Kumbalamchuvattil

This refers to the editorial, “Needless over-reaction” (April 4). In a secular democracy, religion should have secondary significance. Therefore, religious organisations cannot claim paramountcy over the nation. Faith is indeed a private affair of the citizen and religious outfits cannot exist sans a country. A democratically-elected secular Government holds an unassailable authority to invalidate all religious concepts/tenets that jeopardise the existence and development of the nation. Our religious and political honchos are well aware of the basic ethics of secular democracy and yet are working hand-in-glove for disruption.
