This refers to the editorial, “No place for mediation” (June 30). It feels outlandish coming from a court of law that it should suggest mediation between a rape convict and the victim.
How can we expect a victim to bear with a person who once raped and left her in the lurch, with a child born after the rape, to live all by herself in this worldIJ The girl was sexually assaulted six years ago, and now has a child who would ask her mother about her father. Now, the woman earns her daily bread by labouring all day and sends her daughter to school. Even with a positive consideration implicit in the verdict of mediation, it sounds unpalatable here.
