Sir — It is difficult to believe that the Aam Aadmi Party, which has had a resounding electoral success, with the voters giving it a clear mandate in Delhi, is on the verge of an existential crisis within weeks of assuming power. The AAP had raised visions of being a political outfit that would address the problems of the common man. Unfortunately, in projecting itself as the voice of the aam aadmi, it has ended up desperately trying to quell the vociferous sounds of dissent within its own ranks. So much so, that it has now reached a stage where the governance of Delhi has taken a backseat.
With every leader in the ensemble busy asserting his or her loyalty to the factions involved in the power struggle within the party, the AAP seems to be going much the way of those ‘fronts’ which had taken shape in the country some years ago to dethrone the traditional ‘Government formers’. These ‘leagues’ came together as a possible option to the existing power quotients, but disintegrated in no time. The common man’s party flattered to deceive. Are we seeing the disadvantages of having political novices suddenly pushed into positions of power without being made aware of the responsibilities that come alongIJ
