Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Facelift for Delhi BJP” (January 21). The projection of former IPS officer Kiran Bedi as the chief ministerial candidate will prove to be a gamechanger for the BJP in the Delhi Assembly election. Ms Bedi’s entry in the saffron party has changed political equations in Delhi. The Aam Aadmi Party was repeatedly challenging the BJP to project a face for the polls and now the latter has responded well.
It is good that, in general, all the Delhi BJP heavyweights have also reposed their faith in Ms Bedi. The new leader has more credibility and personal integrity than AAP chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Also, Ms Bedi has already proved herself as an efficient administrator.
Since safety of women is one of the most important issues for Delhi voters in this election, Ms Bedi’s emergence may help the BJP win the confidence of women voters in particular. Thus, it can be safely said that her entry has brightened the BJP’s chances in the Delhi Assembly poll.
