Sir — It is shocking that a Member of Parliament publicly threatens to set his boys to rape women supporters of political opponents in retaliation to attacks on his party leaders. Until now, politicians overlooked or trivialised rape and murder. Now we have one who openly advocates rape and murder.
Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal’s reprehensible statements were meant to stoke fear and violence. He may have apologised unconditionally, but by not acting against him, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has given a wrong message. Unfortunately, she has been equally casual with the disgusting remarks of other leaders too.
