Good beginning

Sir — With the euphoria over an emphatic electoral victory just about dying down, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appears to be getting into his own groove, going about the business of governing the country in right earnest. A flurry of decisions that reflects his mood to get on with the job at hand is definitely in sharp contrast to the earlier Government that had to be goaded into action. Apparently well organised, the new Prime Minister is a man who believes in completing tasks in a time-bound manner. His instructions to his Cabinet colleagues to set a 100-day schedule, listing the priorities with focus on efficient governance and delivery and implementation of schemes and programmes, is probably an indication of his administrative skills.

The scrapping of all Groups of Ministers and those empowered to take decisions without referring back matters to the Cabinet is an effort to bring in more transparency. This will expedite the process of decision-making. The method of relegating responsibilities is a sign of a good manager. Good governance is nothing but managing the nation’s affairs to the best of one’s abilities. The shuffling of bureaucrats from Gujarat to be accommodated at the Centre shows Mr Modi’s unstinted faith in his team from his Gujarat days.
