Unfair treatment

Prashant Thakoor

Sir — The UPA Government keeps talking about financial inclusion of the poor. But it has been talking of that since ages and done nothing on the ground.

It has opened a few bank branches in three-tier towns and the villages. However, the Sahara Group has a presence in almost all the villages of the country. The group has given an option to the poor to earn from their savings. People could deposit the money with the representative of the group, and to do that they did not have to move outside their homes. A representative of the company would visit them to collect the sum, irrespective of the amount. This is real financial inclusion. It is ironical that the law of the land is treating Sahara chief Subrata Roy like a criminal.
