THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Police have registered a case against an 85-year-old man for allegedly posting derogatory remarks about Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in a WhatsApp group.

The accused has been identified as Raveendranathan Nair, a resident of Thycaud in Thiruvananthapuram, police said on Sunday.

According to police, the Thiruvananthapuram City Cyber Crime Police Station registered the case following a complaint lodged by a Congress leader on November 4.

The alleged posts were shared in a WhatsApp group named 'Trivandrum Club Seniors Forum TVM Club'. According to the FIR, Nair deliberately posted abusive messages targeting Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. The messages were visible to other members of the group.

The complaint alleged that the posts were intended to defame the two leaders and damage their reputation.

Police said a case had been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act. Further details of the investigation were not immediately available.
