K Sudhakaran, MP and President of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee asked the media in the State to behave themselves and not to act as the trumpet blowers of certain political parties. “You should not degenerate into liars and kill facts. Believe in any political ideology which you love but never distort or black out facts. It will lead to a situation where you would lose your credibility,” said Sudhakaran, while addressing the media at the capital city on Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.
The KPCC chief was addressing the media to explain the incidents which led to the murder of a student activist Dheeraj of the SFI at Idukki last week. A section of reporters kept on interrupting Sudhakaran throughout the interaction, a routine affair in the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club. “Please allow me to tell you what transpired at Idukki. Then only you will understand the gravity of the situation,” said Sudhakaran. But the media persons were not in a mood to listen to him despite his pleas.
“There seems to be a deliberate attempt on the part of the reporters to silence the KPCC President. I am sure they would not behaved like this with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan or the CPI(M) secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. What transpired in the press meet was not fair,” said Shajan Scariah, chief editor, Marunadan Malayaee, a popular news portal.
The political discourse in the State have taken to new lows as K P Anil Kumar, former KPCC leader who recently defected to the CPI(M) threatening in a public meeting on Saturday that Sudhakaran would be lynched like a “mad dog” in the streets of Kerala.
The CPI(M) in Kerala seems to be upset over the popularity and attention Sudhakaran is receiving across the State, according to Amar Mohammed, a Congress activist in Ernakulam. “He is being liked by all sections because of his boldness. Though he is 70, Sudhakaran has become a sure hit with the masses,” said Mohammed.
