CPI(M) Polit Bureau meeting ended on Monday here, rejected the Bengal State unit and party general secretary Sitaram Yechury supported resolution for aligning with Congress in elections.
In the 16 member PB, leaders from Kerala vehemently objected to any sort of alliance with Congress. The Draft Political Resolution brought by Yechury and Bengal leaders would hamper the party's prospectus in Kerala was shown as the main reason by the leaders of Kerala.
Now the final decision will be taken in the Central Committee meeting scheduled from October 14 to 16. In the 91 member Central Committee, both resolutions - the rejected one and adopted by PB - will be taken up for debate.
"The Polit Bureau discussed the Outline of the Draft Political Resolution for the 22nd Party Congress. This will now be taken to the Central Committee at its meeting from October 14 to 16, 2017," said the PB communiqué issued after the meeting without detailing the actual debate happened in the meeting.
leaders from Kerala pointed out that in the state, their main rival is Congress party and so that no alliance with the party can be tolerated as it would lose face before the electorate. Bengal leaders and Yechury were arguing for aligning with Congress detailing the current situation in the West Bengal, where "main enemy" is Trinamool Congress. They also argued that alliance with Congress and other secular parties are needed to counter the growing BJP in the national level.
