Having learnt its lessons during the fiasco resulting in death of around 20 devotees during the immersion of Ganesh idols; the city administration has made elaborate arrangements for the Chhath Puja.
The arrangements including the facilities to the devotees, security in and around ghats have been reviewed with senior police and Delhi Government officials leaving nothing to the chance. The administrative machinery has been pressed into service to spruce the Yamuna Ghats and also clean the banks and the roads leading to the ghats.
Ghats in Delhi have been cleaned in advance for the religious occasion. Wazirabad , the largest ghat in Delhi with other ghats in the vicinity have been placed under the round clock electronic surveillance. High resolution CCTV cameras could be seen at strategic locations to keep an eye on the activities on the ghats.
District Magistrate of North-East lR Garg has been personally inspecting the site on his own and has made sure that all arrangements are perfect. “There are five ghats from different organizations at Wazirabad. All arrangements have been made in a proper manner. We have strictly directed the organisers to not put any banner of any political party and we hope the Chhath Puja goes on successfully,” said Garg.
Divisional Commissioner Dharampal told ‘The Pioneer’ that all arrangements have been made for the Chhath puja at all 72 ghats on the river Yamuna. “Besides this, police officials, 200 civil defence personnel, 20 boats with divers, have also been deployed for the Chhath ghats. The district administration has also installed CCTV camera on major ghats in the city. If there is no facility for CCTV camera, the administration has deputed video-graphers for recording,” said Dharampal adding that the administration is also releasing do and don’t for the devotees.
