Won't leave Cong, declares Vaghela

Amid speculation over his departure from the Congress, leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly Shankarsinh Vaghela on Friday said that he had no plans to leave the oldest party in the country.

“Who told you that I am not happy in the party,” the senior Congress leader asked media persons at his palatial bungalow ‘Vasant Vagado’ in the State capital after a closed-door meeting with the Gujarat Congress in-charge.

The people in the BJP were spreading different versions, claimed Vaghela, who was back at his home after five-day vacation at an unknown location abroad. He also clarified that he had no differences with the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee GPCC president Bharatsinh Solanki.

“The BJP has right to take everyone and so has the Congress to bring people from the BJP. Either have I contacted anyone in the BJP or has anyone from BJP contacted meIJ” said the former Gujarat Chief Minister.

On the issue of over 36 legislators, who had gathered at his residence in April petitioning before then party in-charge Gurudas Kamat that Vaghela be made Chief Ministerial candidate, he refuted the claim, saying that  Kamat had come en route to Ambaji  and it was he who had asked him to invite legislators who were under pressure from the BJP.

Replying to a query whether his MlA son Mahen-drasinh would jump over to the BJP, Vaghela said, he is a mature person and could take decision on his own. However, he added that without reason no one in his family would overtake or overrule him.
