What could be more painful when one finds his or her “obituary” published in a widely-circulated newspaperIJ Besides the birth and demise dates, the name of a person appeared in a “condolence” message in the newspaper! Such a mischievous thing happened in Baleswar.

In an Odia daily, the “obituary” came out in the name of one Kanaklata Mishra stating her life period and the name of her husband as Kuladas Mishra. The nick names of several “relatives” of the woman were also mentioned in the “obituary” column. Finding this, 42-year-old Kanaklata Mishra, a resident of Jaleswar in Baleswar district, approached the local police station and also sought help from the State Human Rights Commission and Women’s Commission.

The anguished woman lodged a complaint with the police against the publisher, editor and manager of advertisement of the daily newspaper on Thursday evening. The “obituary” was published in the paper on Wednesday, stating it was her second death anniversary. IIC of Jaleswar police station Sujit Pradhan said, “We have made a station diary in this case. Further, we suspect a foul play by a person known to her.” The woman had married one Das of Egra in West Bengal about 11 years ago and has a five-year-old daughter from this wedlock.
