A 22-year-old woman and her 28-day-old daughter were found murdered under mysterious circumstance in North-East Delhi’s Nand Nagri area in the wee hours on Tuesday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Nagma and her daughter Sofia. Nagma's husband Dildar Ali has been lodged at Tihar Jail for the more than two months in connection with a robbery case.

The incident came to light  around 5 am on Tuesday when her father-in-law Arshad Ali raised an alarm. When neighbours rushed to the spot and saw him lying with his hands and legs tied. He told the neighbours that his other son Kismat has killed his daughter-in-law and granddaughter in another room. On entering the room, neighbours discovered bodies of Nagma and Sofia with strangulation marks. Arshad's seven-year-old son Nihal Ali was found sleeping on another bed in the same room. They were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.

A case of murder has been registered at the Nang Nagri police station. Since Nagma's marriage to Dildar was less than a year old, the case will be investigated by a sub-divisional magistrate. Although Arshad claims that the mother-daughter duo was killed by his son Kismat, who is absconding, police has not giving him a clean chit in the case. Three members of the family, including Arshad Ali has been picked up by the police for questioning. Kismat is said to be a drug addict and has been involved in petty crimes in the area.
