The Trinamool Congress on Sunday launched a fierce attack on the BJP for unleashing a reign of terror in Tripura and vowed to uproot the Biplab Deb Government from the north-eastern State in 2023 Assembly elections.
The TMC’s reaction came a day after alleged BJP men attacked Trinamool youth wing leaders from Bengal who were visiting Tripura’s Dhalai district to attend a party programme in pursuance of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s bid to expand her party’s base in the North East and elsewhere in the country.
“Tripura is a big sample of Narendra Modi’s double-engine government … where the opposition men are attacked every day … there is no law and order in this State … the Biplab Deb Government is running reign of terror in Tripura and the Trinamool Congress has come to liberate the local people from the BJP’s oppression,” Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee
who rushed to the north-eastern State on Sunday said.
A cavalcade of TMC youth leaders including Jaya Dutta, Sudip Raha and Debangshu Bhattacharya were on Saturday attacked and their vehicles’ were damaged by BJP men, the Trinamool leadership alleged adding the police stood a silent spectator.
Subsequent to the attack 14 TMC men including the Bengal leaders were arrested by the police under National Disaster Management laws. They were granted bail on Sunday by local court. Banerjee rushed to Agartala on Sunday along with fellow MP Dola Banerjee and Bengal minister Batya Basu.
“Instead of reaching them to the hospital or providing them with basic medical help the injured leaders were arrested by the police,” Banerjee who is also the nephew of the Bengal Chief Minister said wondering “is Tripura outside India? … does the Indian laws not apply in this region? … in every street corner the BJP men are standing armed with weapons and wherever our leaders are going they are attacking them with rods, lathis, brickbats … is this the sample ofModi’s double-engine Government.”
Earlier Banerjee tweeted “the GOONS of BJP have shown their TRUE COLOURS! This barbaric attack on Trinamool workers reveals the ''GOONDA RAJ'' in Tripura under Biplab''s Govt! Your threats and attacks only prove your inhumanity. DO WHAT YOU CAN~CHECK~Trinamoolwill not budge an INCH!”
Saying that the BJP’s days were numbered in Tripura, junior Banerjeesaid, “We take a vow to uproot the BJP in a year-and-a-half’s time …let them do what they want to during this period … but Biplab Debshould remember that the beginning of the end of his regime hasstarted in this State.”
