Who real Rahul: London or Lutyens wale?

PNS

Taking forward its earlier charge that Congress president Rahul Gandhi was a British national, the BJP on Tuesday asked the Opposition leader to demystify his citizenship status after the Home Ministry served him with a notice. Describing the Congress president as a “man of mysteries”, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra questioned him asking which is real — “Rahul Gandhi London wale or Lutyens wale”.

Attacking the Congress president, the BJP spokesperson said the entire Rahul citizenship saga is a story of three Cs — citizenship, confusion and clarification.

The Home Ministry has served a notice to Rahul, asking him to clarify within a fortnight his “factual position” on a complaint questioning his citizenship status.

In a letter, the Home Ministry said it has received a representation from BJP MP Subramanian Swamy in which it has been brought out that a company named Backops Limited was registered in the United Kingdom in 2003 with Rahul as one of its directors.

Addressing a Press conference at the party office, Patra said there are questions about Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship and asserted that “if you create confusion you have to clarify.”

He said these questions are based on authentic documents.

“Rahul is synonym of confusion and he has become a man of mysteries. We would like to ask him which one is real — Rahul Gandhi London wale or Rahul Gandhi lutyens wale,” Patra said.

He said there are verified documents carrying his signature as British National. Patra said the company he has worked with in London confirm him as British National.  Has he taken British nationality under some compulsion, he asked.

Patra said even Congressmen are confused and want a clarity on the status of their leader. In a swipe, Patra sought to ask whether Congress leader was an Indian citizen under compulsion and a British national as a choice.

Answering a question, he said Allahabad court had sent this issue to Home Ministry in January, this year.

Patra said under Indian constitution, double citizenship is not allowed and in fact it is a criminal act.

BJP had earlier also raised this issue and sought his clarifications when both sides had locked horns over the controversial Rafale fighter jet issue.
