What lies ahead for 9 'rebels'?

Amarnath Tewary

With RJD supremo lalu Prasad succeeding in managing one of the biggest crisis by bringing back nine out of 13 ‘rebel’ party MlAs back to his flock, the question remains what would be the fate of these  MlAs both inside and outside the State Assembly.

“Since the Assembly Speaker has already notified these RJD MlAs as a separate bloc inside the House they’re now no longer a member of the RJD. It’s a state of total confusion as the Speaker reportedly conducted a headcount of the MlAs before notifying them,” said Amit Kumar, a Patna High Court lawyer. leaders across party lines too said that technically the issue has become very confusing and now the matter would go to the court for the final decision.

“Yes, technically now these 13 RJD MlAs, including those nine who have come back, are no longer the member of their party inside the State Assembly as the Speaker has already notified them as a separate bloc in the House,” said a JD(U) leader while requesting anonymity.

The political pundits of the State too believe that the issue of the RJD MlAs returning back to the party fold appeared not a simple affair. “The RJD may have emboldened their stance politically but technically the party has suffered a major blow inside the House. The Speaker, as per his Constitutional authority, has already notified them a separate entity. So, in technical term they are no longer a member of the RJD on the floor of the House,” said Ajay Kumar, a poll observer of the State.

So what will happen to themIJ “Ultimately they will have to go to court to clear the air but that will take a long time,” he said. Meanwhile, the leader of the RJD legislators group in the State Assembly, Abdul Bari Siddiqui has said that he would issue a showcause notice to the four party MlAs to know their stand on the issue of this “so called” notification letter issued by the State Assembly.

“It’s my right to serve them the showcause notice to know their stand and then only the party will clear its stand over it,” he said. When asked would these MlAs be the member of the RJD inside the Assembly after the Speaker has notified them as separate bloc, Siddiqui said that it was to know about this they had gone to meet him, but he was not available in his chamber.

“It’s all fraud and fake to put their signature…the Speaker has not issued the notification letter Constitutionally…it’s totally undemocratic as well. His conduct is quite surprising,” he said.  Meanwhile, another RJD leader said that the though the confusion persisted over the issue but prima facie our party has won the first round in the battle of perception.
