After waiting for more than a week for the Tatas to dismantle its factory the Mamata Banerjee Government on Monday formally started pulling down the Tata Nano plant in Singur.
Earth movers, gas-cutters and bull-dozers were pressed into service to pull down the plant that had been standing like a phantom by the Kolkata-Delhi expressway for the past more than a decade.
The Supreme Court had a fortnight ago ruled the forced acquisition of Singur lands by the erstwhile left Government as illegal and directed the Government to return the land to the farmers by taking possession of the plant premises from the Tatas.
