The BJP on Friday maintained  that barring Opposition-ruled West Bengal and Chhattisgarh, all the states have been in step with the PM Awas Yojana and that over 3 crore houses were constructed in the last  eight years of the Modi Government.

For his part, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted: “We have made an important step in our resolve to provide pucca house to every poor of the country.”

The construction of more than three crore houses has been possible only with the participation of the people. These houses with basic facilities have also become a symbol of women’s empowerment today.” All houses are equipped with basic necessities and have become the symbol of women empowerment, he said.

Under the PM Awas Yojana (rural), the construction of 2.52 crore houses has been finished.  An amount of Rs 1.95 lakh crore was sanctioned for this.As many as 58 lakh houses have been constructed under the PM Awas Yojana (urban) so far.

An amount of Rs 1.18 lakh crore was sanctioned for it.The party has claimed that West Bengal has been sanctioned about 37,99,000 houses and "we are still in communication with the state about beneficiaries".

Addressing a press conference  here, Union Minister and BJP leader Giriraj Singh said, "West Bengal is a state that wants to function outside the federal structure". Singh said Chhattisgarh has also been sanctioned 8 lakh houses.

He said the Modi government constructed 2.5 crore houses for the homeless in eight  years as against 3.26 crore constructed in the total period of late Indira Gandhi's time. The Congress has disputed the government's claim.

Singh said women have been given the ownership of the constructed houses in the PM Awas Yojana which was launched in 2016.The "Housing for all" goal by 2022 is linked to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for urban and rural areas.
