PNS

Ahead of bringing in a strict law against water wastage in the State, Haryana Government has issued directions to all municipalities to take strict action including imposing penalty or disconnection of supply to avoid misuse of drinking water.

Haryana Urban local Bodies Department has written to all the Commissioners of Municipal Corporations and executive officers/Secretaries of Municipal Councils and Committees to take appropriate steps as per provisions of Water Supply bye-laws to ensure water conservation in their areas.

The State Government is already framing a law to take strict action against wastage of water and planning to bring it during the next State Assembly session.

As per the proposal, water wastage is likely to invite atleast three months imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 2000 in the state. The Urban local Bodies Department in a communiqué to all the municipalities has asked to prohibit a series of activities which results in water wastage from May 5 to June 30 in view of shortage of water supply.
