Twenty-three-year-old woman software engineer from West Bengal, who used to work for an IT firm, was stabbed brutally to death at Pimpri town near Pune.
Identifying the deceased woman as Antara Devanand Das, the Pimpri police said on Sunday that Antara’s body was found with multiple stab injuries at KNB square at Talwade locality of Pimpri, a satellite city of Pune, on Friday night.
“The assailant stabbed the woman in her neck and head multiple times with sharp weapons in her neck,” a police officer said.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Antara, who used to work as a software engineer with an IT firm at Pimpri near Pune, was walking home from her office when the incident took place. The IT firm, in which Antara used to work, is located just 500 meters from the scene of the crime.
The officials of the IT firm Capgemini, in which Antara used to work, have told the police that she left the office at 8 pm. “Instead of taking the office car, Antara had chosen to walk it down from her office to her nearby home,” the company officials said.
An eyewitness has told the police that while Antara was on her way home, she had a heated argument with a man. The man chased her and assaulted her with a knife from behind and escaped.
“An unidentified motorcycle-borne youngster stabbed the woman multiple times from behind with a sharp weapon and fled the scene,” the police officer said.
Seeing Antara lying in a pool of blood, one Satyendra Krishanand Sippy rushed her to a private hospital at Chinchwad, where she succumbed to injuries before she could be treated. Based on a complaint filed by Sippy, the Dehu Road police registered FIR against unidentified persons.
Antara hailed from South 24 Paragana district in West Bengal. After hearing his daughter’s murder, Antara’s father rushed to Pimpri on Saturday night. The investigators have ruled out robbery attempt on her. “No valuables were missing from Antara's body,” they said.
The investigations have revealed that Antara was facing harassment from an youngster for the past several days. The investigators are trying to trace the boy who used to eve-tease and harass Antara in the recent past.
