Assuring to bring in the most needed political stability in Nagaland, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that the BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Government at the Centre will hammer out an honourable solution to the Naga political issue within next few months time.

The Prime Minister said this while addressing a public rally at remote Tuensang district in poll-bound Nagaland and appealed to the people of the State to vote for the BJP and Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) alliance for a strong and stable Government in the State.

Referring to the swearing in of four cabinets in the State in four years time, Modi said that political instability for last several years in the hill State have hampered the development of Nagaland. “The People of Nagaland wants peace and stability. We must now stop this political instability, which have been on in the State for last several years,” said the Prime Minister.

“We are also working on to find a honourable solution to the Naga political problems. I believe that we’ll be able to hammer out a acceptable solution within next few months time,” said Modi.

The Prime Minister further said that the Central Government is open for talks to anyone for solution. “We have kept the option of talks open for everyone. We are ready to talk with the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) also. I admit that the ENPO area is very backward. We are also going to consider special packages and schemes for development of ENPO area,” said the Prime Minister.

“However, there is a big challenge—corruption. It is also imperative for the development to ensure that every penny of the Central funds reach the common people. One Prime Minister of our country had once said that only 15 paisa reaches the common people against each Rs 100 released by the centre, this must change. Our Government is working for this and as a result the loopholes and leakages are reducing.”

The PM added that every resource that was devoted for Nagaland's development would be spent for the welfare of the people and there would be no tolerance towards corruption.

He said that the NDA Government was giving special priority to the Northeast and it was making efforts to further prosperity in the region. “Our Government is committed to ensure all-round development of North Eastern States”, he said shedding light on various measures being undertaken to enhance connectivity in Nagaland.

“Connectivity in Nagaland is a priority for us. We have ensured development of National Highways in the State and in the coming times we will invest more here to further strengthen it. We are also focusing on enhancing rail and air connectivity here,” he said.
