Film star-turned-politician Vijayakant, founder of DMDK, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Chennai since September 22.

This was announced by the managing director of the hospital MIOT International in Chennai through a release. “Vijayakant tested positive for Covid-19 on September 22. He is completely stable and admitted to MIOT Hospitals, Chennai.

He is expected to make a full recovery and should be ready for discharge soon,” said the release by Dr Prithvi Mohandas, managing director, MIOT Hospitals on Thursday.

But the DMDK in a statement issued hours before the release by the hospital had claimed that the former superstar had only mild symptoms of Covid-19 and he had gone to the hospital for a regular medical check-up. The party statement said that he has been cured and healthy.

68-year-old Vijayakanth is rarely seen in public since 2016 when he lost both his seat and security deposit from Ulundurpet assembly constituency in the assembly election. Moreover he has been suffering from a series of ailments for which he was admitted to hospitals in Singapore and USA.
