Uri terror attack: Whose failure, asks Shiv Sena

TN RAGHUNATHA

Charging that the situation in Jummu & Kashmir had turned worse than it was in the previous UPA regime, the ruling Shiv Sena on Monday demanded to know as to who is responsible for the failure to tackle recurring terror attacks in Jammu & Kashmir.

Reacting to the terror attack on an Indian Army camp at Uri in Jammu & Kashmir, the Sena in its official mouth-piece Saamana stated,  “The terror attacks are going on unhindered in J&K. We have not been able to stop the attacks. Who is responsible for the failure (to rein in those behind terror attacks)”.

“It is proper on the part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he has condemned the attack and said the perpetrators will not go unpunished. But, when can we or that what extent can we expect retaliation against PakistanIJ It does not augur well for a powerful country like us to lose 17 soldiers against the killing four Pakistan terrorists.  What can we doIJ,” the Sena asked.

“The Uri attack is bigger than the Phatankot incident. The Uri attack exposed the chinks in our military apparatus. The attacks appear to be a part of the conspiracy by Pakistan to sully the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the international level,” the editorial said.

Alluding to BJP MP  Subramaniam Swamy’s charge that the BJP’s political experiment had failed in J&K, the Sena mouth-piece that the situation in the Valley hang one out of control and had become worse than it was in the precious UPA regime.

“At a time when pro-Pakistan sloganeering is on in Jammu & Kashmir and Pakistani flags are being hoisted there, the Centre should dissolve the State Government and impose 'martial law' there as the President's  rule wouldn't work in the Valley," the Saamana editorial said.

Talking to separately to a television channel, Sena MP and spokesperson Sanjay Raut rooted for befitting reply to Pakistan: “We just cannot keep issuing warnings to Pakistan…. We did nothing after the Phatankot attack. We do not respond to what happens in Kashmir time and again. We just talk and Pakistan takes action from the front. What we witnessed at Uri is the biggest attack on our soldiers in recent times. It is time we acted against Pakistan”.
