UP Guv not satisfied with clarification

Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik may not sign on the dotted line as he is not satisfied with the clarification given by the State Government in connection with the nine names recommended for nominations to the State legislative Council. Sources in the Raj Bhawan said the Governor is likely to seek another clarification from the Government on the names as the queries were yet to be answered.

The Governor has already sought clarification on the names and their detailed bio-data and even after meeting of Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav with Naik, the matter is still unresolved. Raj Bhawan sources said the CM instead of giving details of the candidates, which the Governor had sought, has submitted individual affidavits by the candidates.

“Governor has received over 100 complaints against the Government recommended candidates. Obviously, Governor needs some time to take a final call,” the source said.

The term of nine members expired on May 25. Even as the Government had sent recommendation for nomination on May 21, Governor had sought clarification. Sources say that if not satisfied with the information, the Governor might ask for more details from the State Government on these nine candidates.

Governor had sought details on criminal past, pending cases, defaulter’s status with banks, if any, among other informations.
