The UP Government has ordered a probe into the complaints received about the irregularities in the construction of roads in the State during the previous Samajwadi Party regime. Deputy chief Minister and the PWD Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said in the State Assembly on Wednesday that the work for making the roads pothole free is in progress and will be completed by June 15 next month.
“We have received thousand of complaints from the legislators and others about the corruption in the PWD. We have already blacklisted two companies with one of them using fake bank guarantee to get the contract,” said Maurya, while replying to a query of an MlA on how the roads get damaged within a few days of construction.
The MlA said this happens due to the use of the substandard material in the construction of roads. The Minister said this matter has come to the notice of the State Government and a probe has been ordered. He said the Government will take effective measures to prevent the reoccurrence of such incidents.
“The State Highways have four-year guarantee by the construction company while other roads have a guarantee of five-years. The damage of the roads within a couple of months after its construction is a serious matter and the construction firms will be accountable for the lapse” said the Minister.
He said the Government is committed for the repair of all damaged roads and making them pothole free by June 15. He said of the total of 80,000 kms of roads to be repaired, the work on 13,952 kms of road has been completed by May 15.
