On basis of the report submitted by committee headed by PWD Minister Shivpal Yadav, the State Government has announced to give Rs 5 lakh further financial assistance to over 1,800 displaced families in riot-hit areas of Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts.

The money will be given for the rehabilitation of those families which are living in relief campus and have refused to go back to their native villages out of fear despite numerous efforts made by the District administration. The move will cost an estimated Rs 90 crore to the State exchequer.

In a official communiqué of the State Government released of Sunday evening, officials said Rs 5 lakh financial assistance is being given to allow families the freedom to settle anywhere they want. The decision has been taken after looking into the report submitted by the 10-member committee comprising Ministers and headed by Public Works Department Minister Shivpal Yadav.

The committee was formed on directions of SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and sent to the riot-hit area to review relief work and rehabilitation of victims living in camps. The committee had said in its report that insecurity and distrust was preventing people in relief camps to return home.
