Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik on Tuesday informed that he has sent back for re-examination the list of persons to be nominated for the Upper House Vidhan Parishad, which was sent by the Government for his approval.
He further asked the Government to submit the contribution of the nominated persons in their respective fields like art, culture, literature, social work and cooperative who are to be nominated in the Upper House in the State.
“I am also urging the Centre to seek the report from the police on whether the nominated person had been involved in any criminal case. Does he still maintain his criminal record and what is the latest status and what nature of criminal record the concerned person maintains, if they have any,” he said.
Clarifying that he has not turned down the Government’s list, he said, “It is the re-examination of the record of the person who is going to be nominated to the upper house since the upper house is meant for the persons who maintain outstanding contribution in the fields like art, culture, social work and cooperative movement. Their services would benefit the state through representing upper house in the state,” added the governor while talking to the media persons after Guard of Honour.
The Samajwadi Party Government in Uttar Pradesh had sent a list of nine Samajwadi Party leaders to the governor to fill the vacancies created on last Monday. The names include the name of Jitendra Yadav from Ghaziabad who is the history-sheeter criminal of Kavi Nagar police station. Jitendra Yadav, who resides in sector-15 of Raj Nagar, is a close relative of lalu Prasad Yadav whose daughter Raginee is married to his son Rahul Yadav.
It is believed that to escape the police report, Jitendra Yadav is being shown a resident of Bulandshahr from where he had contested the last assembly election on Congress ticket.
The Governor was at Ghaziabad to attend a religious function at Rishbhanchal on Tuesday. He presented awards to the persons selected by the religious body of Jain disciples called Rishbhanchal in their annual function.
