Strange it may look but crime statistic of last two decades released by State police on Friday evening showed some surprising facts like murders in the State reduced to less than half in 2012 than what was reported in 1992. Interestingly, the population in the last two decades almost doubled to what it was in 1992 and people even feel more insecure now in comparison to 20 years ago but still the crime figure of almost all sensations crimes pointed a drastic fall.
Even the figure of riots is much more than reported now. However, the crime against members of fairer sex showed some upward trend than compared to two decades back.
As per data released by IG (law and order) RK Vishwakarma on Friday evening, total 10,559 murders were reported in 1992 and the trend almost remained same in 1993, 1994 and 1995 with 10589, 10,776 and 10,634 murders respectively. However in 1996, murder figure showed a declining trend with 8,500 murders and this trend continued till 2003 when just 5,284 murders were reported in the State. In 2004, the figure showed some upward trend with 6,126 murders but again it went on declining and in last two years i.e 2011 and 2012, 4,951 and 4,966 murders were reported respectively. In 2008, 2009 and 2010 this figure remained around 4,500 killings. likewise attempt to murder were 9,804 in 1992 and remained around same in next three years but later it also declined and in last two years this
figure remained on 4,653 and 4,811 cases respectively. The lowest figure of attempt on life was in 2003 when just 3,793 cases were reported.
The cases of riots also showed similar trend. In 1992 the State witnessed 10,604 riots which reduced to 9,273 in 1993, 9,592 in 1994 and 7,918 in 1993. It continued to decline with just 5,022 cases reported in 2011 and 5,676 in 2012.
