Hoping that the Modi impact would prevail for the next two years, the State BJP has decided to contest next Assembly elections without projecting any chief ministerial candidate.
Uttar Pradesh BJP in-charge, OP Mathur, told reporters the party has started preparations for the next elections but they are not looking for a Chief Minister face. “The BJP will not project any chief ministerial candidate for the 2017 Assembly polls,” Mathur said here on Sunday.
“like Harayana and Maharashtra Assembly elections, UP too will have no CM candidate before the polls”, he added. In last few elections the BJP had contested elections in UP by projecting a chief ministerial candidate. In the last Assembly elections, Kalraj Mishra was in-charge of UP’s election campaign and party had projected Kalyan Singh as its chief ministerial candidate.
Mathur said the party has started preparations in right earnest. The membership drive has already been launched across the State. leaders have been given responsibility to reach out to the people at the village level.
“The party has fixed a target of enrolling 15 million new members in the party by the year end. The way we are working, not only in UP but across the country, the BJP would be the biggest party in the world. We can achieve this target only if the BJP does well in UP because this is the most populated State of India,” he said.
He further said that the entire road map for elections has been prepared with the focus on a UP sans Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party. The State is already free from the Congress, he said.
“We will engage all the senior leaders of the party while the youth would be given more responsibilities to ensure that the BJP does not lag behind in any area,” he stated. Mathur said that he himself will go to the remote areas of the State to assess the situation and will leave no stone unturned for the next Assembly polls.
He said that the party would be revamped by next March-April and office-bearers would not be nominated. “Efforts will be made to select candidates for posts through consensus or election so that sycophants can be kept away,’’ he said.
