After confirmation of Dawood Ibrahim’s six addresses in Pakistan by the United Nations 1267 Committee Monitoring Team and their addition to its database, the UN has now added India’s most wanted terrorist’s other names (aliases), along with his father and wife’s names to its records.
“The UN 1267 Committee has a monitoring team, which periodically updates the record of the global terrorists on its database. The information regarding Dawood Ibrahim is the result of the latest updating of the records pertaining to Dawood Ibrahim by the 1267 Committee monitoring team,” MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup said on Friday.
The UN Committee’s actions means that Dawood continues to remain on the designated list as a global terrorist and that the monitoring committee continues to retain his Pakistani passport as a valid document. “The UN has also confirmed that he resides in and has properties in Pakistan and that the UN continues to keep a regular watch on him. Besides the fact that his Pakistan addresses have been verified, some other records have also been added in his listing such as his wife’s name, father’s name and several of his aliases,” Swarup said.
“India continues to maintain that it is incumbent upon Pakistan to extradite this global terrorist, to whom they have provided sanctuary for a very long period of time to face justice for his many crimes. We hope Pakistan will heed international opinion on this issue,” he added.
India had given a dossier to UN about nine possible addresses of Dawood in Pakistan where he frequently visited. Out of these nine addresses, six were found to be correct, confirming India’s allegation that the underworld don was hiding in Pakistan.
