In the midst of continued Russian military action in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Government has appealed to India for support in its peace formula. Andriy Yermak, Chief of Staff to the Ukrainian President, conveyed this request during a telephonic conversation with India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) on Wednesday.

The discussions come almost three weeks after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks during the G-7 summit in Hiroshima. During their meeting, Modi assured Zelenskyy that India would spare no effort in seeking a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. In the recent conversation, Yermak provided NSA Doval with updates on the ongoing situation in Ukraine, taking into account the continued military actions by Russia.

According to an official statement from President Zelenskyy’s office, the phone conversation between Yermak and Doval focused on the implementation of Ukraine’s peace formula. They also discussed the crucial aspect of consolidating international support for the Ukrainian peace plan and explored the potential for India’s involvement in executing specific aspects of the plan. In addition, preparations for a “Global Peace Summit” were also on the agenda, with Yermak emphasizing the importance of broad participation from countries worldwide, including those from the Global South.

As Ukraine seeks assistance from India in its pursuit of peace amidst the ongoing conflict, the appeal highlights the importance of international collaboration and support in resolving the crisis and fostering stability in the region.
