Two persons were arrested with the pelts of one leopard, one ghoral (blue sheep) and one bear gall bladder by the Sahaspur police on Tuesday.
The duo has been identified as natives of Ukhimath in Rudraprayag district and has confessed to have brought the wildlife contraband here to sell. Wildlife activists have been saying for some time now that since the government machinery is focusing on various works related to the recent disaster, wildlife criminals are trying to take advantage of the situation.
According to the Sahaspur Thana station officer Surya Bhushan Negi, the police had received a tip off about persons trying to sell wildlife contraband in the area.
