In an indication of strong popular approval of policies and performance of 20 month Old K Chandrasekhar Rao Government Telangana Rashtra Samiti on Tuesday wrested Narayankhed Assembly constituency from Congress party with a big margin of 53,625 votes.

M Bhupal Reddy of TRS defeated his nearest rival Sanjeeva Reddy of Congress.

The seat had fallen vacant following death of Sanjeeva Reddy’s father and Congress MlA Kishta Reddy.

Such was the hold of the Congress over the constituency that it is only second time that a non Congress candidate emerged a winner in Narayankhed. Earlier only at the peak of NTR wave in 1994 that the TDP had won the seat.

The TDP candidate and former MlA Vijaypal Reddy came third with 14787 votes.

In the bypoll held on Feb 13 the the constituency recorded more than 82% polling.

Of the total 1,88,370 votes 1,54,866 votes were polled. The TRS secured 93,076 votes and the Congress came second with 39,451 votes.

Major irrigation minister T Harish Rao who had led the TRS campaign thanked the people and reiterated that all the promises will be fulfilled and Narayankhed will be developed into a model constituency. “This victory is a birthday gift to the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao,” he said.

The victory in Narayankhed came close in the heel of TRS sweeping Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

If KCR’s son and minister K Taraka Rama Rao was the hero of GHMC success his nephew Harish Rao emerged as the hero of Narayankhed bypoll.

Narayankhed is part of KCR’s home district Medak.
