TRS to raise HC bifurcation issue in Monsoon Session

Omer Farooq

Mounting further pressure on the Center for the bifurcation of Hyderabad High Court, Telangana Rashtra Samiti has decided to raise the issue during the coming Monsoon Session of Parliament.

A delegation of TRS MPs led by senior members K Keshav Rao and T Jintendar Reddy called on the Governor ESl Narsimhan on Thursday and submitted a memorandum demanding the bifurcation of the High Court in accordance with the AP State Reorganization Act.

"As per the constitution every State should have a High Court. But Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have only one High Court which is a violation of the Constitution", Keshav Rao said.

Holding Andhra Pradesh Government responsible for the delay in this regard, TRS MPs said that it was deliberately delaying sending a communication regarding the location of the proposed High Court in AP. "Though union law minister Sadanand Gowda had written to the AP Government seeking a written communication on the location, the Government was deliberately dilly dallying over the issue", Keshav Rao alleged.

The governor assured the delegation that he will find out from AP Government where it wants the High Court to be located.

"We will stall the proceedings of the Parliament to draw the urgent attention of the Center to this burning issue", said Jitender Reddy, TRS Parliamentary party leader. "We will not allow any bill to be presented". He said that the party's protest will continue till the Center gives a categorical assurance in this regard.

lashing out at the Prime Minister, the TRS leader said that instead of solving the key issues of the State, the Prime Minister was spending more time abroad.

Vinod Kumar alleged that Modi Government was deliberately neglecting the issue of bifurcation of the High Court even more than a year after the formation of Telangana state.

Another MP Visheshwar Reddy alleged that AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was conspiring to delay the bifurcation of the HC.

later the TRS MPs met the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and briefed him about their meeting with the governor and his response.

Telangana Government had earlier offered an alternate place to set up AP High Court in Hyderabad. But Hyderabad High Court turned it down saying the new High Court should be located within Andhra Pradesh and not in Hyderabad.
