Trial run of another stretch of Hyd Metro on

Omer Farooq

As part of the hectic preparations for the opening of a new stretch of Hyderabad Metro between Ameerpet and lB Nagar, authorities have started the trial run of the train to test all the systems. The 30 kms long stretch will be the longest route of the city Metro.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was expected to formally inaugurate the route in the first fortnight of August. The route passes through several historical landmarks including the Telangana State Assembly building and the Moazzam Jahi Market and also link the Nampally railway station to the Central Bus Stand of Hyderabad.

After the successful testing of signaling, communication and other systems the officials were expecting to get the nod from the commissioner of railway safety to open the route for the traffic. Official sources said that the Chief Minister’s program to inaugurate the route will be finalised only after getting the safety and other clearances.

Once this stretch is opened, the people from the eastern suburbs of Hyderabad will be able to travel right across the city to the Miyapur in the western suburb. The Miyapur-Ameerpet stretch was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendar Modi in November last year and now the same route will be extended upto lB Nagar. With this the entire 30 kms stretch will be thrown open to the commuters. Officials hope that this will reduce the traffic pressure on the busy Chadarghat-Dilsukhnagar road.

The entire corridor will have 27 stations as the new stretch will have 16 new stations and officials expect that with the opening of this line the total per day traffic on the Metro trains will double to nearly 150,000.

Another stretch of Ameerpet to Nagole was also opened in November last year.

Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director NVS Reddy said that the stretch between Jubilee Bus Stand in Secunderabad and Central Bus Station at Imlibun in Hyderabad will also be ready by April next year.
