The Government has refused to release ‘The Henderson Brooks Report’ on 1962 Indo-China War, saying the report is a ‘Top Secret Document’ and has not been declassified so far.
“Release of this report, fully or partially or disclosure of any information to this report would not be in national interest,” Defence Minister Arun Jaitley said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
Jaitely added that the government is aware of reports purporting to disclose part of the report on the Indo-China war.
The report was written by then lt General Henderson Brooks and Brigadier PS Bhagat in 1963 talked about India’s military operational lapses during 1962 war with China. It was commissioned by the Indian Army following its defeat by the Chinese.
The Indian Government has so far refrained from releasing its findings, even though some part of it leaked out in March this year. Incidentally, in March this year, Arun Jaitley, who was the leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, had advocated for declassifying Henderson Brooks.
