Khushbu, heartthrob of millions of cine-goers in Tamil Nadu, who is also the national spokesperson of the Congress underwent a surgery in a Chennai hospital on Friday. Hospital sources told that she was stable and would be discharged in a day or two.
“The surgery was to remove a small nodule in her stomach. She is fine and needs bedrest for a couple of weeks,” said the source quoting doctors who are attending to the star.
The lead actress in Tamil movies for nearly two-decades, Khushbu’s name is being figured in the list of candidates being considered by the Congress high command for the post of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee. Since the day she joined the Congress in 2014, Khushbu has emerged as the face of the party in South India thanks to her articulation and clarity.
Before joining the Congress, Khushbu was in DMK and was a close confidante of party president Muthuvel Karunanidhi. Her name had figured as a possible candidate of the DMK for the 2014 lok Sabha election. But the faction headed by MK Stalin, working president of the party who is the heir apparent of Karunanidhi shot down the proposal. Khushbu’s house in Chennai had come under attack and it was reported that people close to Stalin were behind the attack.
After a hectic campaign in the 2014 lok Sabha election for the DMK candidates, Khushbu bade a tearful farewell to her mentor Karunanidhi and joined the Congress.
The star’s closeness to Karunanihi had created ripples in the latter’s extended families who demanded that Khushbu should be kept away from the party patriarch.
