The Tinamool Congress on Friday rejected claims made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the State or its Government was consulted before bringing about the new education policy (NEP).
Speaking about the issue, Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said that “no one from Bengal was consulted on the New Educational Policy” and added whether anyone was privately consulted was beyond his knowledge.
"Insofar as the new education policy is concerned … to my knowledge, nothing has happened no one was consulted … not even a single time … with respect to our honourable Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) I can say with my full voice that none from Bengal was included.”
Regarding the draft resolution of the NEP he said it is being said that “discussions were held with states for 3 to 4 years but no such discussion took place” and added “may be discussion was held with someone but not with us." The Minister also said that the State had formed a 6-member expert committee which will give their views by 15th August.
“I will speak on this issue only after the report comes and only after discussing about this issue with the Chief Minister," he said.
Earlier the Prime Minister had said that the proposals on the NEP had been discussed and debated for 3-4 years before its being tabled.
