With the Marxists getting relegated to the background after the lok Sabha elections and the BJP fast emerging as the State’s real opposition group the attack on the saffron supporters by alleged Trinamool goons seems to have picked up with two more cases being reported on Monday.

A BJP worker Pradip Pakhira was severely beaten up at Chandannagore in Hooghly district, the party sources said adding he had been admitted to the Serampore Government hospital in a serious condition.

The BJP had done exceptionally well in Hooghly seat in the recently concluded lok Sabha polls with the party candidate Chandan Mitra polling 2.28 lakh votes improving upon its 2009 tally by about 1.9 lakh votes. The BJP got huge response in the Chandannagore belt.

In a second such incident houses of BJP supporters were torched in Nayagram in West Midnapore party sources alleged. In both the cases the Trinamool Congress denied allegations. The attack on the BJP supporters have been on the rise as was steady migration to its fold over the past a few months. A steady stream of left and Congress workers have been switching sides to join the BJP in an apparent bid to get a protective cover.

Alarmed by the rise of the saffron group, the Trinamool had of late increased its attack on the BJP men killing at least two and injuring hundreds of others in Birbhum, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Burdwan, Coochbehar, Alipurduar, East Midnapore, Howrah and Hooghly where the party was coming up fast.

Twice central teams of central BJP leaders have visited the State’s North 24 Parganas and Birbhum districts before submitting their reports to the central leadership.
