In an alleged incident of custodial death, a BJP supporter on Friday lost his life at Harinkhola village at Arambagh sub-division of Hooghly district after being brutally beaten up by Trinamool men and then by the men in uniform who first picked up the victim in their van and then dumped him midway. locals complained that “police picked up a half-dead man in their van” and then threw him on the road.
The incident took place when Sadakmani Khan was attacked by Trinamool goons. “His brother Jainal Khan is a BJP supporter. The criminals were backed by Trinamool men who attacked Sadek,” locals said. The 58-year-old man was brutally beaten up before being handed over to the police who did the rest after picking him up in the van. locals alleged that the cops realised that the victim had died and dumped him on the road.
later, the doctors at Arambagh sub-divisional hospital declared him brought dead. Reacting strongly to Friday’s gruesome murder BJP State president Rahul Sinha said his party would take the issue to court. “The police teamed up with the Trinamool Congress to attack and kill our supporter at Arambagh. We will not spare them and take legal action against them,” said Sinha adding that BJP workers had become the targets of Trinamool Congress workers.
The saffron party was planning to move the court against the cops and the Trinamool goons responsible for the death of the victim, he added. Saying that Bengal was “living in the medieval age” CPI(M)’s Dr Sujan Chakrabarty said “Trinamool Congress has ruined this State in every field. Now, they are teaming up with the police to finish off the Opposition parties.”
Congress’ State president Adhir Chowdhury said the Centre should take cognizance of the ongoing incidents of violence against judges, media, people, police and Opposition in the State. “There is no section of society which is safe” he said adding how “the common man, media, Opposition parties, policemen and even the judges were coming under attack by the Trinamool men.”
The PCC president asked the Centre to declare Bengal a “disturbed area.” The time had come “when the Centre should take cognizance of the failing law and order situation and declare the State a disturbed area.” Harinkhola had for the past one week been focal point of Trinamool-BJP clashes with each side bringing charges of violence against the other.
