It’s high time we modernise police stations in Gujarat with state-of-the-art gadgets to provide impetus to the police personnel and increase their efficiency and productivity, said Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Sunday.

Addressing a gathering of IPS officers, the Gujarat Chief Minister said that maximum use of CCTV in crime control and research was one such upgradation that was needed. According to him such facilities have been installed in Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Morbi town in Saurashtra region through Public Private Partnership (PPP) to set up Smart Police Stations.

Primary duty of the State police force is to protect people’s safety and security through transparency, decisiveness, sensitiveness and progressiveness, he said, adding that the image of the ruling class or the Government depended on that of the police. It is for the police force to change the public perception by providing positive impression that good governance is for the poor, have-nots and common man, said the Chief Minister. Rupani also stressed on the need to modernise police force to check growing cyber crime, and making the recruitment process of youth more dynamic.

Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel opined that an impression should be created that the police is the protector and friend of the public while the criminal elements dare not indulge in crime. Top priority of the police force is to check anti-social elements harassing and oppressing the innocent law-abiding citizens, said the Deputy CM.

Addressing the meeting of IPS council, Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja stressed on team spirit among the cops, especially between top officials and their subordinates. Jadeja said that team spirit is essential for the overall efficiency of the police force. He exuded hope that building up the right image of the police would establish the excellence of the force in the long run.
