Three persons were killed and eight others injured when an under-construction building collapsed at Goregaon in north Mumbai on Sunday morning.

A three-storey structure, which was under-construction, gave way and came crashing down at Goregaon's Motilal Nagar locality at 9.15 am, trapping under the debris eleven labourers. They were engaged in the construction of a building undertaken by the State-run Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).

The fire brigade personnel and teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) brought out three bodies and rescued eight persons from the under debris. The rescued persons, all of whom had suffered injuries, were rushed to the nearby Sidharth Hospital.

Of the three killed, two were identified as Shravan Kumar Goremandal (27) and Subhash Chavhan (38) and efforts were on to identify the third deceased.

Later in the afternoon, the NDRF personnel completed the debris clearance operation.
