UP’s political backdrop is filled with various hues. But this professor, Nehaluddin Ahmad, contesting from Kaiserganj constituency contestant is adding a new hue to the existing landscape.

The All India People Front (AIPF) candidate, Nehaluddin’s claim is that he is one among the most educated contestants trying their luck this election. At a time when mafia-turned-politicians, sadhus, sadhvis, film actors and social activists are in poll fray, Nehaluddin seemed standing aloof.

A resident of Aliganj, lucknow, Nehaluddin — who teaches law in a Malaysian University - claims he has a doctorate degree in law from Meerut University, a Master of laws degree (IT and Telecom law) from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK, a Master in law degree from lucknow University and a post graduate degree in History from lucknow University.

Nehaluddin is looked as ‘Knight of law’ among his followers. His supporters claimed that Nehaluddin was in poll fray for a reason while his rivals were in poll without any rhyme and reason. Besides his vast experience of teaching in India, he worked at prestigious law faculties in countries like Tanzania, Malaysia and Brunei.

So what motivated him joining the political bandwagon which always a fancy of even those who had renounced the world and which is not a cakewalk. “While teaching in foreign universities an idea grew in me to do some good for my country. But I needed a platform. The countries in which I stayed during work had not very old political system but the system which exited there is very evolving and very people welfare oriented,” he said.

Nehaluddin said while visiting houses of his relatives living in Kaiserganj district he came across the pathetic state of the people living there. The representatives elected by the people hardly pay attention to public cause once they win the election. They used to treat people as worth only to pay visit in election season and at last minute exercise,’ he said.

He said someone who had visited the area would find the roads are full of potholes, no proper electricity in the area, public health care units are missing. “The mafia men had control on fundamental rights of the voters here. Should this condition be of a district only 100 kilometers away from state capitalIJ The area is a sugarcane belt but the sugarcane growers are at the margin of the development program of various governments. The farmers are in a pathetic state and no one is pained or moved at their woes and their plight,” he said. Nehaluddin said the area was always communally sensitive and the representatives here always exploited the people sentiments than doing any progressive work.
